Saturday March 16: Arrival to Helsinki
Depart your destination in the evening of Friday March 24th to arrive in Helsinki in the morning or afternoon. In the early afternoon the group will meet at the hotel before having our first meal together in the city. The remaining afternoon will be spent exploring the area.
Sunday March 17: Helsinki City Tour
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast before bundling up for a 2hr walking tour of Helsinki. Our knowledgeable guide will tell us the history and happenings of this beautiful city. Some of the sights to be seen will be Helsinki City Hall, City Hall Quarter, Old Market Hall, Havis Amanda, Uspenski Orthodox Cathedral, Temppeliaukio Church and more.
After our evening dinner we will depart for the train station for our overnight train (known as the Santa Claus night train route) to our first stop in Lapland-Rovaniemi. Our sleeping arrangements are set in a private room (2pp per room) with bunk beds and vanity with bathroom and showers just next to the room. The train ride is about 11hrs (mostly sleeping). Enjoy breakfast in the dining area while watching beautiful winter scenery all around you-Arctic Circle here we come!
Monday March 18: Snowmobile/Reindeer/Dog Sledding
Wake up-we are above the Arctic Circle! By morning the Finnish double-decker night train will reach Ravaniemi, the official home of Santa Claus.
We will transfer to our hotel and check-in before meeting our pick-up for our Husky and Snowmobile Safari. We will drive (or be passenger) our snowmobile to the husky farm located about 12 miles away. At the farm, we'll have a briefing on sled driving before we start our dog sledding! We will get informed about the dogs and their daily life and of course be able to cuddle with the puppies. We will then take our snowmobiles back.
For the remainder of the afternoon we'll have lunch in the city, explore the area, and make plans for activities for tomorrow.
Tuesday, March 19: Open Day in Ravaniemi
Today will be an open day to explore Ravaniemi the way you'd like to! Below are some examples of how to spend your time.
Santa Claus village and Santa Park, Arktikum museum, snowmobiling, ice fishing, snowshoeing, arctic adventure park, ice climbing, cross country skiing, ice carting, and more.
We suggest Santa Claus Village which is only a short bus ride away from town. Hear Christmas carols and festive music as soon as you enter the hallowed gates of this dreamy village. Of course there's no better way to arrive at Mr. Claus' house than on a reindeer sleigh In the mid afternoon we will visit Snowman World. Here we will get to experience the "Arctic Playground". Slide down daring hills on a snow tube, practice snowboarding on the snowboarding learning range, build your own snowman, admire ice sculptures in the Ice Gallery, and of course-visit the Ice Bar and Igloo Hotel!
Wednesday, March 20: Arctic Resort
In the late morning we will transfer by bus to the town of Saariselka to Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort where we'll sleep in a heated igloo under the Northern Lights (hopefully see them!). This area is more north and so deeper into the Arctic winlderness. Frozen slanting trees, ice-laden hills, and fields covered with untarnished snow-the scenery in northern Lapland is beyond your wildest imagination.
We will arrive in mid afternoon and check into our Glass Igloos and cabins. The remainder of the day will be relaxing and exploring the grounds. We will get fitted for our snowshoes in the late afternoon and take a group snowshoe walk in the evening in search for the Northern Lights.
Thursday, March 21: Open Day
Today will be an open day for you to choose an activity or relax on the beautiful and enchanting grounds.
Below are some options to choose from.
Snowshoe (use rental included), Reindeer Safaris, Husky Safaris, Horseback Ride, Horse Sleigh Ride, Snowmobile Safaris, Cross Country Ski, Ice Fishing, Downhill Skiing or Snowboarding,
In the late afternoon as a group we'll visit the sauna on the resort grounds. Going to the sauna is an essential part of your Finland visit! The heat will help us relax and unwind and relieve our stress both physically and spiritually. The sauna is by the river so we can take a dip in the water.
Friday, March 22: Float with Icebergs & Snow Castle
In the early morning we will transfer from our Arctic Resort and head south to Kemi. This area is known for the amazing Ice-breaker Sampos. This is and optional activity and must be booked in advance (refer to price) and highly recommended (most likely will be the highlight of your trip!). You may have been on many cruises, but nothing like this one. This ship called the "Ice Breaker Sampo" for a reason as it cuts through Europe's largest mass of frozen ice in the Gulf of Bothnia-the frozen Baltic Sea. Best part of the cruise? In the middle of the journey we'll given the opportunity to plunge in ice-cold waters in a bright floatation suit which keeps you toasty warm.
Truly a once in a lifetime experience!
Let's top that awesome experience and stay overnight at a Snow Castle. That's right~! One night sleeping on an "Ice Bed" which we know is on that bucket list of yours, will happen this evening. All comfortable down sleeping bags will be provided for an adventurous evening at the Snow Castle~!
Saturday, March 23: Explore Snow Castle & Fly To Helsinki
In the morning enjoy exploring the rest of the Snow Castle you may not have been able to see the day before. Breakfast is served inside the warm Castle Lounge.
In the morning our domestic flight from Oulu will get us to Helsinki in the late morning. We'll enjoy going out in the city and sharing our amazing memories of our Arctic Finland Adventure.
Sunday, March 24: Depart Home
Depending on your flight schedule, transfer to the airport to arrive at your destination in the evening.
