Our departure time from the city will be at 8:00am, arriving to Lancaster County by 11:00am. Our first stop will be the Central Market. This is the country’s oldest farmers’ market in a beautiful 109-year-old, red brick building. Open the door to find both local character and great food options! Regional food highlights that you’ll find inside include scrapple (a sausage-like breakfast meat made of cornmeal and pork scraps), Pennsylvania Dutch Sausage, and headcheese (similar to scrapple, but jellied – an acquired taste). Many chances to sample foods!
In the early afternoon, we'll head to the small town of Lititz. Here we'll visit Julius Sturgis Pretzel Bakery, America's first commercial pretzel bakery from 1861. Our next stop in Lititz will be Wilbur Chocolate Museum and Factory Store. The five-story chocolate factory was built in 1913. The museum features antique memorabilia used in the making and sale of chocolate. Of course many goodies for sale here! Known as America's Coolest Towns, the group will get time to explore the historic streets. We will end our day at Kitchen Kettle Village before heading for our farm accommodations for the evening.
After a late breakfast, we'll tour the Amish Village to get a full understanding on the Lancaster Amish culture, religion, and way of life. Our visit will include a tour of an authentic Amish farmhouse with stories of the Amish lifestyle today.
On our way back to the city, we'll take a scenic drive through PA to Buck County where we'll stop at Peddler's Village for lunch and shopping. Peddler's Village has something for everyone from 65 specialty shops and five restaurants. Our next stop will be the small town of New Hope PA, with a quick optional wine tasting stop on the way. This historic town is bustling with galleries, small shops, and cafes with picturesque views to match. Our expected time to arrive back to the city is 7-8pm
